Gilwood Golf and Country Club
The Gilwood Golf & Country Club offers
an interesting challenge to any golfer, no matter how skilled.
The 18-hole course is located 10 kilometres north of Slave Lake on Hwy.
88, in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park.
Gilwood is a great place to play if you like trees. Carved out of a mature
spruce and aspen forest in the late 1980s, it is as pretty a place to
spend an afternoon as any golfer could hope for. It's also a deadly place
for losing golf balls, for those with a habit of hooking or slicing. Tall
trees loom everywhere, daring you to stray too near. But that's part of
the challenge, and the fun.
There's also a fair amount of water at Gilwood. Only the frogs know for
sure how many balls are buried in the mud on holes 3, 7, 8, 12 and 13.
The modern club house has a fully stocked pro shop, club and cart
rentals, driving range, food services and a licensed lounge area, complete
with an outside deck.
The season at Gilwood runs from mid-April through to Oct. 15, weather
Clubhouse hours for the lounge and food services depend on the time of
year. Call the Pro Shop at 780-849-4389 for further information, to find
out about upcoming tournaments or to book tee times.
If club manager Stan Ostapczuk doesn't know the answers, nobody does! Tourists
will find the course in great shape for the summer season. Come and play
